These little NAS servers are extremely powerful and customizable, with Embedded Linux systems.  Qnap also offers QPKG add ons for easy functionality add on to their QNAP NAS Servers. For example we saw one QPKG that lets you use your normal webcam , to turn your QNAP server into a surveillance station.

You can literally do anythign with these devices, limited only by the computing power they have. FTP server, HTTP server, PC Less Downloading, Remote Viewing of Images Videos, Iphone /android Integration, itunes server, UPNP video streaming...... the possibilities are endless.

Compared to any other brand, these are probably the best value for money. However these are not simple out of the box installation. A little configuration is to be done, that most users should find no difficult with.  We offer hard drive installation if required, but the other software configuration is to be done by the user.

In TS1140, the Gen 1 3592 Media is not supported.

Offisite Data Storage ensures that your data is safely stored at a location, isolated from your live data  and readily available whenever required. Our Media Vaulting services offer you offsite data storage, media rotation and easy retrieval whenever required.

Data Destruction is almost inevitable as your needs for data storage grow and you upgrade your tape drives. Old tape media should be safely destroyed in an environmental friendly way. We provide a certificate of destruction after the tapes are destroyed.

The Packing has changed with only Infoprint and Ricoh printed on the physical stocks. There is no IBM Mentinoed anywhere on the New packing.

Recently HP Announced that the HP C8007A ( DLT VS 160) are not orderable anymore. It's hardly surprising, given the small volumes and overhead they might have to keep the factory running.

On the flip side, there is some HP inventory still lying in channel, and there are plenty of stocks in other brands, so there won't be an immediate supply constrain for the VS160 users. however it looks like the End user eventually is going to have to go the LTO way.

The demand on other DLT Media like SDLT-1 and SDLT-II is also declining and the prices are going up, that should further encourage mirgration to LTO.

Lexmark Printer are very well received in Middle East with a reputation for printing great colors and heavy duty. However the Consumable for printers is generally perceived as difficult to find, which keeps many potential users from trying these great printers.

Equally important to Regular back up of data is the safe storage of Tape cartridge on which the data is stored. If your tape is exposed to heat, moisture, shock and other elements, they are prone to data loss.

Imation's DataGuard is a new product aimed at storing and tracking the media. You can think of a DataGuard as a turtle Case with a Programmable RFID tag, included with each case.

What it means is that the user has the option of tracking with RFID exactly where the tapes are, adding extra security to the tapes. The cases also have slotted and cushioned protective inserts that are interchangeable for a variety of media like LTO, Enterprise, DLT/SDLT. Inserts are separately order able too.

Some of the features of Imation Data Guard are

• 2x-4x more G-force shock protection
• protective inserts, that can be ordered separately, giving you option to use the same case for  LTO, SDLT and Enterprise
• Inserts are not made of Foam that creates dust and debris.
• RFID TAG with Each Case
• Thermal and water protection

Since last 4-5 years, the industry has been hearing various backup technologies being introduced as A replacement to DAT Technology, that has been a runaway success. Each technology owner trying to pitch it agains DAT claiming better reliability, transfer rate and other features, only to see a failure to gain significant ground. 

We still have not seen any media that comes close to DAT Economically, and that's why it's still very popular with small businesses.  The Sale on DAT media is still very strong. DDS 4 and DAT 72 being the largest selling media. One of the primary reasons for DAT ( Called 4MM or DDS also, though DAT 72 onwards HP started using the word DAT only) success is the low price of media compared to other similar capacities.

HP has already revised the prices this year and the stocks are not availabel in any quantities you want, but all this has not affected the sales. In fact, the 2 largest selling Data Media format remain LTO and DAT. It will be interesting to see a new format take a significant market share away from either DAT or LTO, with better margin options for the channel.
